Develop workflows for advanced manufacturing techniques on architectural materials to broaden Elkus Manfredi Architect’s design toolkit.
In partnership with the Autodesk BUILD Space, the 3D Fabrication Team of Elkus Manfredi Architects was responsible for carrying forward architectural materials research—studying and testing the applicability of new manufacturing techniques for application in architecture.
The primary focus during my time at the firm was on the application of 5-axis machining to renewable materials manipulation. The project consisted of five panels—Wood, Aluminum, Green Concrete, Glass, and Bamboo—which would be given a fluid shape inspired by cryoconite. This form-factor came with the purpose of exploring the limits of the manufacturing techniques on each material for the development of workflows and guidelines for the firm and its contractors.
