Organization
Manage and develop the Harvard SEAS Makerspace in accordance with its mission to provide quality instruction and equipment to the community and enable exploration and education in the arts, engineering, and beyond.
Over the course of its first year, the SEAS Makerspace required massive infrastructure improvement in order to support the myriad of labs, personal projects, and class projects using the space. Developments in the space involved ordering tools, toolchests, shelving, workbenches, and 3D printers as well as producing supporting structures such as tool racks, printer spacers, and drawer layouts.
Equipment was stocked and ordered in response to and oftentimes in advance of student demand, which required constant vigilance. All tool racks were designed using Fusion 360 to fit their respective tools perfectly, then laser cut from stock materials. Running the space required familiarity with all tools involved—laser cutters, 3D printers, miter saws, band saws, sanders, Dremels, drills, routers, sewing machines, and more—as well as how to design around their use.
